Call for Submissions, Colorado Archaeology
The boards of the Colorado Archaeological Society (CAS) and the Colorado Council of Professional Archaeologists (CCPA) have formally adopted a proposal creating Colorado Archaeology: An Annual Publication of Southwestern Lore. Colorado Archaeology is a larger format, refereed journal publishing professional quality articles, reports, notes, essays and reviews on archaeological research within or relevant to Colorado. Colorado Archaeology will replace one of the four Southwestern Lore issues in a given volume. The desire is to publish annually, but ultimately the frequency of publication will depend on the number and quality of manuscripts in hand. The advisory board for the journal will be represented by both CAS and CCPA. Michael D. Metcalf and Kevin D. Black are the volume editors for Colorado Archaeology; Judith Halasi is editor of Southwestern Lore.
Publication of the inaugural issue occurred in Winter 2005 as Vol. 71, No.4 of Southwestern Lore, the second issue was published in Spring/Summer 2009 as Vol. 75, Nos. 1&2, and the third is the Spring 2012 issue, Vol.78, No1. However, additional manuscripts for future issues are in short supply. Authors submitting manuscripts are requested to follow Society for American Archaeology style in text references and bibliography (see the style guide here); see the inside back cover of the Spring/Summer 2009 issue of Colorado Archaeology for additional guidelines. Please send three hard copies (double spaced) and one disk copy of the manuscript. We also ask that you avoid excessive formatting in manuscripts to facilitate final formatting for publication. Figures and photographs should be of good quality – a minimum 300 dpi for all digital images. All submissions will be reviewed by at least two outside reviewers chosen according to the subject of the review. Following review, the author will be sent the reviewers’ comments.
The journal will contain:
1. Articles. Synthetic manuscripts, overviews and reviews of past research are especially encouraged.
2. Reports. Shorter, more descriptive manuscripts. Reports on individual sites will be accepted only if the work described is placed into larger context.
3. Comments. Manuscripts that focus on issues of current interest in Colorado archaeology or on previous publications. Comments on previously published works will be submitted to the author of that work for review and reply.
4. Book Reviews. Short reviews of current publications pertaining to archaeology in Colorado.
We encourage submissions from the full spectrum of archaeologists working on topics of relevance to the state. So dust off those best ideas and make your mark in Colorado Archaeology.
